Fine Moments

Jason Carberry, the founder and designer behind Fine Moments, graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art and began his career as a graphic designer working in Chicago, Illinois. While working for a wide variety of design firms on an equally diverse list of projects ranging from typeface design to consumer packaging, it wasn't until he started designing wedding invitations and birth announcements to mark these momentous occasions for friends and family that the thought of a stationery business started to percolate. Finally, after much persistent encouragement from some very satisfied friends and family members, Jason finally decided to turn his buzz-worthy creations into an actual business. He created Fine Moments after moving to Northern California in the summer of 2005. Since then, Jason's classic and timeless designs have helped to create lasting memories for discerning clients and families all over the globe.

ON PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS:

"I have often been told that I'm a perfectionist, and after working in this business for more than 12 years I'm still trying to decide if this is a blessing or a curse. Oftentimes I find myself spending many days on just one detail of one design. While this sometimes means that my volume of designs might be lower than others, it also means that a lot of thought and attention goes into every design that I offer."

ON DESIGNING A KEEPER:

"When designing stationery I try to create designs that I would like to receive and hold onto (if I were to receive it), instead of just pitching it like all the others."

PICTURE PERFECT PHOTO TIPS:

Jason advises parents to use the fill flash on their digital cameras to capture perfect pictures of their children. By telling the camera when to flash instead of just using an automatic flash function, you preserve the composition of your photo. This technique is particularly useful for outdoor portraits because it highlights both the background and subject of your photo.
