After earning a degree in graphic design from the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Georgia, Ashley Toporek Woodman worked at a firm designing annual reports and corporate identity packages for clients such as FedEx, International Paper and Revlon. She eventually branched out on her own, launching simplyput by Ashley Woodman once she realized how utterly enjoyable and fulfilling it was illustrating and designing invitations and social stationery.
Her line offers a refreshing balance of simple illustrations, well-crafted typography and classic design elements. Her traditional approach, combined with her modern sense of style, has added fashionable celebs to her client list, including Debra Messing, Rachel Weisz, Jamie Pressley, Nora O'Donnell, Monique Lhuillier, James Brubaker and Phil Michelson.
"Every day something happens to fill me with the same 'pinch me' sentiment I had when taking our first order in 1999," says Woodman. "I can only hope that our customers get as much satisfaction from sending our cards as we do designing them, and that we continue to be part of their 'pinch me' moments as well."
FAVORITE STATIONERY:
"My own birth announcement is still my favorite. It was a stream-of-conscious collection of the first thoughts my dad wrote the minute I was born. Very cosmic. Very hippie. VERY late '60s."
