Party Invitation Ideas - How to Write a Party Invitation

By

Sending party invitations is the best way to communicate to your guest what it is that you are celebrating and what the event is all about. When creating your party invitations, there are several things to think about before putting them into the mail. Besides making sure they are clear and legible you should also include these points:

  1. Who: Provide the name of the host for the party. If it's a child's birthday party, make sure to list the parent's name.
  2. What: Tell the recipients what the event is for. Birthday party, graduation, holiday, etc. If it is for a birthday party make sure to include who it is for and age they are celebrating. Same goes for graduation, list which education milestone they completed and who it is that is graduating.
  3. When: Make sure to be clear about the date and time of your party. Always include the day of the week as well. For instance Sunday, May 22nd from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
  4. Where: Be clear on the location. If the party is held off-site, meaning not at your home, give not only the physical address but also the name of the business and phone number for directions.
  5. RSVP: Provide the guests with a phone number that can be used to inform you ahead of time if they will be arriving as well as a phone number that the host can be reached at during the party in case of last minute changes or directions. Nowadays email is a popular option to list for party planning and RSVP'ing in advance.
  6. Guests: Let your recipients know if they are allowed to bring a guest.
  7. Instructions: If your celebration is centered around a specific theme which you expect your guests to take part in be clear on the invitation. If they need to dress a certain way or bring anything with them to the party make sure you communicate that clearly on the invitation and provide this information as a reminder during the RSVP call.
  8. Teaser: A fun way to get the party started before the actual celebration day is to list a fun teaser or hint on the party invitation. If you have a game planned for the party you could give away a hint on the invitation. If you have multiple activities planned yet don't want to spoil all the fun by telling them what's in the works, you can tease them with an idea to get them excited and looking forward to attending your event.

Always test one invitation to see how it looks before sending them out. If you are printing your own, print a test run first. If you are ordering them online, I suggest writing all the information down beforehand to make sure you have everything clear. Once you have it written up, check it twice.
