Birth Announcement Wording

Now that your little bundle of joy has arrived, it's time to celebrate and announce their arrival to your closest friends and family! Between planning, showers, designing a nursery and of course baby's safe arrival, the last thing you as a new parent should worry about is what exactly to include on your birth announcement. We've put together our favorite tips and advice on putting together your birth announcements, along with plenty of birth announcement wording examples to help you get those custom announcements out to friends and family!

Birth Announcement Wording: Tips, Tricks and Things to Remember

Thankfully, there's not much to worry about when putting together your personalized birth announcements. There's only a few essentials to include, along with a lovely snapshot of your special arrival, of course! When customizing your birth announcement, be sure to include:

  • Both parents' full names. This seems like a given, but your announcement should include the distinction of surnames. The announcement should read "Jeff and Shirley Donaldson" or "Betty Davis" instead of "Jeff and Shirley" or just "Betty." It's always good to make sure you've covered your bases, even if it's unlikely your loved ones would confuse your announcement with another. You may also choose to include sibling's names in this portion of the announcement.
  • Baby's full name. This is your baby's official introduction to the world, so it's important to adhere to this formality. Include your chosen middle name if applicable, so your announcement reads "Susan Harper Ellington" instead of "Susan Ellington" or just "Susie." Be sure to include the gender if your child's name isn't gender-specific.
  • Baby's birth date. Your loved ones want to know the details, so you can choose to be as specific as you like. Many parents choose to include the time of birth as well as the date, so the announcement reads "at 6:05pm on October 22nd, 2013."
  • Baby's weight and length. These details are optional, but again your loved ones want to share in this special moment as much as possible, so you may choose to include these specifics. If this seems like too much, consider a phrase to assure your friends and family that everyone's healthy and well. You might include that the parents have "welcomed a healthy baby girl," or that "mother and baby are doing well."
